• Communication student wins Future Journalist Award- Outstanding Southern Representative.

TrueVisions and BBC World News organized the 13th Future Journalist Project (TrueVisions-BBC World News Future Journalist Award 2015), to provide an opportunity for students who are interested in the news industry to have a chance to learn with professional journalists at the national and world level. Only 30 students passed the first round writing examination; they then could go through to the second round of examinations.

There were three communication students from Walailak University who passed the first round; Miss Tientip Daewkee and Miss Chayanat Mee-ngern (4th year undergraduate students), and Miss Sakunrat Preedaphon (3rd year undergraduate student), all under the supervision of Professor Thanaporn Jaroenthunsakul. They participated in a news process workshop with professional journalists from the national and world level from 28-30 April, 2015, at the Kanmanee Palace Hotel, Bangkok. In addition, they won the privilege of interviewing for postgraduate scholarships from the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).

During the training, there was a TV news documentary contest. Miss Sakunrat Preedaphon’s team was the winner, and Miss Tientip Daewkee’s team won the second prize. After finishing the training, there was a second contest, and the Board of Directors chose Miss Tientip Daewkee as the winner of the Future Journalist Award- Outstanding Southern Representative. This was the second honor prize. She received a certificate, a plate, free career training at TNN24 for one month (with allowances and accommodation), and a free English course from the British Council.

Miss Tientip Daewkee (Ploy) said, “I’m very glad and proud of myself to win this prize. I learnt about ethics, the news process, TV news, concepts for using pictures in communication, case studies of in-depth news reports, online news, behind the scenes of the news process, how to use a Smartphone to record the event and clip editing from attending this workshop. I learnt every step of how to produce documentary news, including planning, contacting the news sources, data searching, in field visiting, writing scripts, and clip cutting. I got many suggestions from news professionals and friendship from new friends”.
