Animation: Cat’s Hidden Talents!
—————-

I’d like to design a funny and little bit cocky animation for Tom. I set the cartoony style animation as a preconcept of this work.
When I was thinking about the situation that would happen in the scene, I explored many ideas such as dancing, playing music instruments, but those weren’t the things I was looking for, until I met this 2D hand drawing

The floor design in this animation wasn’t animated. It was a visually tricked with the texture and the relocation of the monkey. I like this idea so much, and it helped greatly for designing timming on the stage.
It’s very easy to analyze the posing and timing when we have concreates references, I took additional posing references from the classic 2d animations. I had spent almose 10 days on the research before I started animate the project.

I set the idea that Tom would smartly enter the scene. When he approached the obstacle, he’d freak out a lot and tried to avoid the obstacle.
He was able to that for the first obstacle but he couldn’t balance his body very well. His overconfidence led him to hit the second obstacle.
He was losing sight and maneuver so, finally he hit the sign (which this idea was just recently changed).

The changing of idea always happens. In this career, the changing takes place after the test shot, receiving comments from the audiences.
You may notice the many version of the shots, ecpecially in the end, the early version wasn’t clear enough as we see Tom crashing the snow and gone.
The another version was a little sign and the later version was combining those obstacles together. These changing were based on the audiences’ idea, which were the colleagues and seniors in the office.

Also I put the previs, references and the final work in the clip.
Please enjoy.
