Walailak University Commends the Achievements of Faculty Members and Students of the School of Informatics

On 28 January 2026, prior to the Executive Board Meeting of Walailak University No. 1/2026, held at Mokhlan Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-an Building, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, presented congratulatory flower bouquets to faculty members and students of the School of Informatics who have produced outstanding achievements and brought honor to the University, as follows.

A third-year student from the Digital Technology in Medicine program received a Gold Medal in the Higher Education Invention and Innovation Contest, Health and Medical category, for the project “LIGHTBRAIN,” a brain–computer interface system for communication and control for individuals with severe physical disabilities. The award was presented at the Thailand New Gen Inventors Award 2026 (I-New Gen Award 2026), held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Bangna.

First-year students from the Interactive Multimedia, Animation and Game program, Team “The Aew Championship,” received the Best Visual Storytelling Award in the Animation category (Amateur level) at the Thai Digital Content Go Global: Digital Content Contest & Awards, organized by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa). The team members were Ms. Rawisara Kaewamphai, Ms. Sasipim Phadungsuwan, Ms. Sirirak Chonpukdee, and Ms. Nalinee Phromdet.

In addition, first-year students from the Interactive Multimedia, Animation and Game program, Team “Aquatic Animal Guardians,” received the Rising Star Award in the Character category (Amateur level) at the Thai Digital Content Go Global: Digital Content Contest & Awards, organized by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa). The team members were Ms. Malita Khwantong, Ms. Khanatsanan Sakaran, and Ms. Nikpawi Thongbang.

Furthermore, Assistant Professor Dr. Pornpon Thamrongrat, a lecturer in the Interactive Multimedia, Animation and Game program and Head of the research project, was awarded a research grant from external funding sources for Fiscal Year 2026 (January 2026).
