Walailak University has produced a video interview documenting the performance of “Kham Tak” songs to preserve local wisdom. This initiative is part of the project “Cultural Capital Management Based on Ancient Sandbank Beliefs to Enhance the Local Economy in Sichon District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.”
On August 12, 2024, Walailak University, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Fareeda Jae-ea, Assistant to the President Dr. Naparat Chukerd, Lecturer Thirawat Klaiklueng, and students from the School of Informatics, visited Chalong Sub-district, Sichon District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. They aimed to film a video interview and document the performance of “Kham Tak” songs. The people of Sichon use these traditional songs to advise younger generations on moral conduct, embedding life lessons within the lyrics. Key topics of the interview include:
- The history of “Kham Tak” songs
- Important messages embedded in the lyrics
- Traditional practices in preserving the lyrics
- Knowledge on conserving and promoting cultural wisdom
The video features performances by renowned local artists such as Master Sakdina Saman, President of the Local Artists Association of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, and Master Wira Ngamkhum, President of the Cultural Council of Sichon District. Additionally, it includes appearances by several masters of local arts, new-generation folk artists, and students from Chalong Sub-district, Sichon District. Walailak University has compiled the video clips into an information system for preserving and disseminating local wisdom as part of the “Cultural Capital Management Based on Ancient Sandbank Beliefs to Enhance the Local Economy in Sichon District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province” project.
