Staff from the School of Informatics participated in a meeting as co-hosts for the event “Sichon: Embracing the Spirit, Rejoicing in Life, Finding Fortune at the Infinity Rich Sichon.”

Staff from the School of Informatics, Walailak University, joined the cultural heritage research team led by Associate Professor Dr. Siwarit Pongsakornrungsilp, Vice President and Project Leader, to hold discussions with community network partners at Wat Chedi (Ai Khai) in Sichon District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The meeting was supported by various local organizations, including the Chalong Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Chalong Tie-Dye Fabric Community Enterprise, Ban Khao Sai Community Enterprise, Sichon District Cultural Council, Nora and Shadow Play Artists, Kamtak, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (Nakhon Si Thammarat Office).

The meeting aimed to co-host the event “Sichon Spiritual Trip: Heal Heart, Heal Life and Heal Luck @Srichon Infinity Rich” or “Sichon: Embracing the Spirit, Rejoicing in Life, Finding Fortune at the Infinity Rich Sichon.” Under the concept of “Sichon: The City of Faith,” the project focuses on elevating the local economy through cultural tourism. The event will spotlight Wat Chedi as the central hub, connecting faith-based routes while highlighting key festivals such as the Fire Giving Festival, Chinese New Year, and Shrine Fairs to stimulate tourism and strengthen the community through collaboration among citizens, the state, temples, and schools.

The meeting was honored by the participation of Mr. Supachai Jomrit, Mayor of the Chalong Subdistrict Administrative Organization, along with representatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Nakhon Si Thammarat Office, to collaboratively plan the activities.

The event is scheduled for January 31 to February 2, 2025, at Wat Chedi (Ai Khai) and will feature activities that blend local traditions, such as the Fire Giving Festival, with new experiences steeped in faith and cultural richness.

The School of Informatics plays a crucial role in developing a Digital Cultural Heritage Database, creating VR360 media of Wat Chedi (Ai Khai), and producing Digital Storytelling videos to showcase the uniqueness of the area’s cultural heritage.

The research team from the School of Informatics includes Asst. Prof. Dr. Peeravit Koad, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kannattha Chaisriya, Asst. Prof. Dr. Fareeda Jeh-oh, Dr. Naparat Chookerd, Dr. Yuttana Jaroenruen, Dr. Rotjaret Narongrach, and Mr. Phirasoost Kateleatprasert.
