The Communication Arts program organized the training “Local Storytelling Lab: Communication–Storytelling–Local Context” to develop creative storytelling skills for the Tha Sala community.

The Communication Arts Program, School of Information Science, Walailak University, organized the workshop “Local Storytelling Lab: Communication–Storytelling–Local Context (Nakhon Si Thammarat Province)” on July 12–13, 2025, at Walailak University.

The activity aimed to develop knowledge and creative storytelling skills for participants from 10 sub-districts in Tha Sala District. The goal was to enhance the potential for communicating local stories to create cultural value and foster the creative economy.

The workshop included a lecture on the topic “Local Storytelling and the Creative Economy” by Assistant Professor Dr. Sakulsri Srisarakam, Head of the Research Project from the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, and a practical training session on “Video Storytelling Techniques: Filming and Editing Clips with Mobile Phones” by lecturers and academics from the Communication Arts Program, Walailak University.

The participants engaged in exchange activities and presented stories under the theme “My Home’s Treasures,” reflecting on challenges and obstacles in local storytelling. They also had hands-on practice in storytelling and cross-media communication to create value and increase the economic worth of local products or narratives. Furthermore, they learned self-directed video filming and editing techniques, which strengthened their communication skills and can be creatively applied to their community’s storytelling in the future.

This project is part of a research initiative supported by the Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B). Asst.Prof.Tanaporn Charoenthansakul and Asst.Prof.Wannarat Natee from the Communication Arts Program, Walailak University, are co-researchers in the project.
